Tucked away inside the Fujita Museum, Amijima Chaya is a hidden gem – incredibly quiet, tranquil, and peaceful, with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow beautiful natural light to pour in, creating a calm and soothing atmosphere. For just ¥500, you can enjoy a choice of matcha, bancha, or sencha, served with two sticks of freshly grilled dango – one topped with soy sauce and the other with red bean paste. The staff recommended the matcha, as it's the most popular, and I'm glad I went with their suggestion. What made the experience especially memorable was how everything was prepared in front of me. The staff were gently grilling the dango and even cooking the red bean paste on site. They also spoke very good English, which made the interaction even more pleasant. The first sip of matcha was a surprise – slightly bitter at first, followed by a rich and smooth umami finish. I'm used to sweetened matcha, so it was eye-opening to taste its natural flavour. The dango had a smoky aroma and a chewy texture. I especially enjoyed the red bean version – the paste was smooth and sweet, which paired beautifully with the matcha. Afterwards, I wandered around the Old Fujita House garden, which had free entrance – a lovely way to end the visit.

The ambience and staff were really nice! Dango was also really delicious and set is not expensive. Though, they had a bit old matcha and gave only one cup of sencha.

The matcha was a true delight for tea enthusiasts. Prepared with meticulous care, the vibrant green hue of the matcha immediately caught my eyes. The first sip revealed a harmonious balance of umami and slight bitterness, a testament to the high quality of the tea leaves used. The texture was smooth and frothy, with a creamy finish that lingered pleasantly on the palate. Served in beautiful, handcrafted bowls, the matcha not only satisfied the taste buds but also provided a visually pleasing experience. Complementing the matcha perfectly was the dango – traditional Japanese rice flour dumplings. Amijima Chaya’s dango were presented in a charming, minimalist style, skewered and glazed with a sweet soy sauce and sweet red beans. They were chewy yet tender, with a subtle sweetness that paired wonderfully with the robust flavor of the matcha

You can enjoy matcha, hojicha, and dango (rice dumplings) at affordable prices. The dango is freshly grilled right in front of customers after receiving the order. It's a great option before or after visiting the art museum.

Quiet and huge spacious area. Looks really nice for photo pictures. The lady that served us speaks pretty good English and was really kind and patient. Total damage was 500 yen for a set of 2 types of dango and a half a cup of matcha. Dango was small, abit chewy, tasted nothing at all and the flavored depends on the type of tango, brown was just salted. Meh overall. The one with red bean paste taste sweet, paste was perfectly grounded and soft. Matcha was nice but it's just a fairly little amount. Will recommend to try for first timer but definitely not worth going again.

This place seems to be in the middle of nowhere and part of a museum which we didn't go into. The cafe staff are really friendly and offer explanation of the teas on offer. We both got the set which comes with two dangos - one with sweet soy sauce and other with red bean paste. I really enjoyed the sweet soy flavour as the roasting of the mochi adds to the savoury taste. The tea I got was the bancha green tea which was delicate and light. While my partner got the matcha which we were told was the most popular. The space was really tranquil and peaceful with lots of open space.
